New reports have revealed that the export of liquefied gas from Turkmenistan to Pakistan, through the southern Afghan province of Kandahar, has begun for the first time.
Mohammad Younis Mehmand, President of the Afghan Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said it was an important step towards the country’s economic development.
Afghan media reported that liquefied gas trucks from Turkmenistan to Pakistan, through Afghanistan, represented a new initiative, a major step towards the region’s economic development and commercial connectivity.
Gas had previously been transported to Pakistan, via Iran, but Afghanistan was now a safe transit option, allowing large-scale exports in that direction.
The international company Yasser Basir began exporting natural gas to Pakistan through the land port of Spin Boldak. About 50 gas tankers — each carrying 30 tons of liquefied gas, which arrived in Afghanistan’s Kandahar province — were sent to Pakistan.
