South Korea’s Ministry of Industry announced on Tuesday that auto exports rose 40.3% year-on-year last April, on the back of strong demand for environmentally friendly cars.
Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy data showed that the value of auto exports was $6.16 billion last month, compared with $4.4 billion in the same month last year.
This is the highest value for car exports in the country recorded during any April. Higher sales are due to strong global demand for eco-friendly cars.
The value of eco-friendly car exports rose by 55.8% year-on-year last April, to $2.05 billion, in the second-highest monthly export value recorded.
The data showed that sales of cars at home rose by 4.3% year-on-year to 149 thousand and 374 units over the past month.
