Uzbekistan’s government has announced its intention to eradicate poverty by more than 50% by the end of 2026.
The Government of Uzbekistan is trying to draw on the expertise of neighbouring and nearby countries, notably China.
Over the past 40 years, China has managed to bring more than 850 million Chinese people off the poverty line.
The World Bank said that China’s total population fleeing poverty was more than 70 per cent of the world total over the same period.
Therefore, Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Liu Guchong met with Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Kuchkarov in Beijing last month to discuss China’s experiences in poverty eradication.
Wang Wenbin, spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized China’s and Uzbekistan’s cooperation in poverty reduction, where they have been able to achieve positive results in recent years.
Wang said the Uzbek government plans to test and mainstream China’s experience in poverty reduction in all countries of the country.
Uzbek President Shaukat Mirziyoyev is scheduled to visit China for this week’s China-Central Asia Summit.
