Imports of grain from Russia rose last April by 554.8% compared to the same period last year, Ministry of Finance statistics reveal.
The Ministry’s statistics revealed a 31.4% decrease in imports of fish and fish products during the period compared to April 2022. Meat and meat products were not imported.
Imports of vegetables also declined, with Japan shrinking its imports by 75.1% in April 2023 compared to the same month last year.
Japan had imposed sanctions on Russia against the backdrop of Ukraine’s special military operation, announcing a freeze on the assets of 892 people, and 83 Japanese institutions, including banks, had imposed export bans from Japan to 363 defence-related organizations and institutions.
