Data show that the number of foreign tourists arriving in South Korea reached 889 thousand in April, a 595% increase from the same month last year.
Tourist numbers have recovered to 54% from the same month in 2019 before the coronavirus pandemic, according to data from the Korea Tourism Organization.
According to the countries, Japan came in first place in terms of tourists, with 128 1,000 Japanese tourists arriving in South Korea, a 5651% increase from the same month last year.
The number of American tourists reached 109 thousand in April, a 252% increase from the same period the year before the United States ranked second, followed by China with 106,000, a 936% increase over the same period.
Taiwan was fourth with 77,000, Thailand with 54 thousand and Vietnam with 41,000.
Hong Kong and Taiwan ranked first and second in terms of the percentage increase, with the number of tourists coming from the two countries rising by 27.141% and 15.185% respectively.
The report further noted that the number of South Korean travelers abroad rose last month by 596% year-on-year to 1.49 million.
