China’s imports of major energy commodities from Russia rose to an all-time high last month, highlighting the growing interdependence between the two countries as the Ukrainian crisis enters its second year.
Bloomberg reported that imports of thermal coal and coke from Russia jumped to 10.6 million tons last June, coming in higher than the combined total from Indonesia and Mongolia, the other largest suppliers to China, according to data from customs, today.
In the same month, Russia’s oil flows amounted to 10.5 million tons, an increase of more than 40 per cent year-on-year.
Asia’s largest economy has proved to be a vital outlet for oil and coal exports from Moscow, with Western buyers avoiding shipments due to the conflict.
