Pakistan signed an agreement with Azerbaijan to import shipments of LNG to secure its growing energy need.
The signing ceremony took place today in Islamabad between representatives of the Pakistan State Gas Company and the Azerbaijani State Oil Company, in the presence of Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shahbaz Sharif.
In a statement on this occasion, Sharif explained that every month Pakistan will receive a shipment of liquefied gas from Azerbaijan as needed, and that the Convention will remain in force for one year and can be extended for another year.
He explained that under the Agreement, if Pakistan did not receive the shipment, it would have no obligations to do so, and Pakistan would have the authority to purchase the LNG shipment, usually an important development between the two countries.
