The Kyrgyz Ministry of Agriculture announced on Thursday that a draft decision has been put forward to ban the export of all types of wheat and flour.
The draft includes imposing a ban for a period of six months to ensure food security and stability in market prices for commodities.
“Flour prices are rising in the Kyrgyz Republic today. The product is of social importance, and if there is a shortage of it in the market, this may lead to a food crisis in the country,” the Ministry of Agriculture explained.
“In addition, a letter was received rejecting requests for the transit of wheat, food grains, and sugar through the territory of Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan,” the Ministry of Agriculture added.
“The authorities are ready to release the reserves of the State Material Reserve Fund to stabilize the situation. But cheap grains and flour can be exported from the Kyrgyz Republic. To prevent this from happening, the Ministry of Agriculture proposes an export ban,” the Kyrgyz Ministry of Agriculture said.
