There have been many rumors recently that the World Wide Web was completely cut off and millions of users lost their internet connection on October 11, and these news have been linked to many theories and phenomena that have no basis in truth, and here’s the truth in short.
ICANN announced that ICANN, the relevant DNS domain name organization, is working to update and change encryption keys that help protect the domain name system (DNS), which the ICANN Foundation is doing to better protect the security of the internet.
ICANN, located in the United States, as a non-profit organization will carry out many tasks related to the internet infrastructure, encryption keys on October 11 this year. This change is the first of its kind since those keys were used in 2010.
In a statement, ICANN denied the rumors of an internet outage, and confirmed that changing the encryption keys will not cause an internet outage anywhere in the world, and the organization explained that this change is a routine procedure that is carried out every few years to ensure internet security.
“We are aware of some concerns related to the change of encryption keys on October 11, but we want to be assured that this change will not lead to an internet outage,”the organization stressed in its statement.
“We have cooperated with the entire online community to implement this change in a safe and reliable way, and we expect the change to be implemented smoothly,”the statement said.
The organization stressed that all internet service providers around the world are aware of these changes and are ready for them and at the moment, there is not the slightest indication that the replacement of encryption keys will lead to the disconnection of the internet in any location on Earth.
