Kyrgyzstan’s Cabinet of Ministers has banned the export of flour and wheat for six months, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
The ban will not apply to re-export, transit, or humanitarian help supplied by Kyrgyzstan, according to AKIpress News Agency.
On September 19, the Kazakh Association of Flour Enterprises said that the price of a bag of Kazakh flour had increased from 1,700 to 2,300 soms.
The flour imported from Kazakhstan accounts for 50% of Kyrgyzstan’s local flour market.
Flour production increased by 10.3% from January to August 2023 to 155,400 tons, but decreased by 24% in August 2023 compared to August 2022 to 17,200 tons.
