The Kazakhstan Ministry of Tourism and Sports has immediately decided to repeal the bed tax.
“We have determined that the bed tax must be repealed. It is inconvenient for both local business and visiting international visitors,” Vice Minister of Tourism Yerzhan Erkinbaev said during a press conference at the central communications office.
According to the Vice Minister, this tax has so far collected over 500 million tenge. However, it was decided to repeal the tax.
“We will make modifications to the legislation as quickly as feasible. Today, we feel that the bed tax should be repealed entirely,” he said.
The foreigner tax becomes legislation in 2021. Aktoty Raimkulova, then Minister of Culture and Sports, stated that the tax is required “to identify extra sources of local budget to develop regional tourist potential in both domestic and overseas markets.”
In March 2023, it was agreed to replace the interest rate on the tourist tax with a set rate.
