The UAE economy minister, Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, said on Wednesday that the UAE’s GDP grew by 3.7% in the first half of the year, driven by the growth of the non-oil sector.
“The growth of the non-oil sector increased by 5.9% in the first six months of the year,” Minister Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri said at a business conference in Dubai.
Al Marri described the economic growth in the UAE as a testament to its strength, diversity, and commitment to openness and international cooperation, adding that the country has become less dependent on oil and more dependent on knowledge-based sectors.
The non-oil sector accounts for more than 70% of the country’s GDP.
The Gulf states, whose revenues are largely dependent on oil and gas, are currently proceeding with plans to diversify their economies and sources of income and attract foreign investment.
