Russian Deputy Security Council Secretary Alexander Venedikov said that West’s representatives are trying to prevent BRICS expansion by bribery and threats, stressing that they would not succeed.
“Surely such thematic paths (the expansion of BRICS) do not satisfy Westerners, they want to build a new world for the elite only, where the rights and interests of anyone else are not taken into account,” Venedikov explained.
“We see continuing trips of their envoys to different parts of the world in the hope that either by bribery or by threat they will change the normal course of history. Today, however, it is clear that all attempts by the Westerners to discredit the multipolar model of international cooperation will not succeed, nor will any results be achieved,” he added.
The BRICS Group agreed at its last meeting in South Africa to include six new countries, namely Argentina, Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Ethiopia, where membership will be effective from early 2024.
