Riyadh Air is set to order up to 100 Boeing 737 Max aircraft, a move that would add short-range aircraft to the company’s fleet from scratch, people familiar with the matter told “Bloomberg.”
“The company supported by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund is considering submitting confirmed orders for 50 aircraft, along with the same number of other options, indicating that final discussions are continuing and the number may change slightly,” said people familiar with the matter, asking not to be named as the discussions are confidential.
The new Saudi airline builds its fleet from scratch.
Bloomberg reported that the company, run by former Etihad Airways CEO Tony Douglas, was finalizing what it described as a “major order”, which would include narrow-body aircraft (one-lane), after a deal to buy 787 Dreamliners from Boeing for long-haul use.
