DP World Australia said that it made significant progress in resuming shipping operations at its ports in Australia after a cyber attack restricted access to many facilities across the country.
“Our teams are testing key systems critical to the resumption of normal operations and regular shipping traffic. We will provide a further update on the situation once this testing phase is complete,” DP World Australia said in a statement on Sunday.
DP World, one of the world’s largest port operators, discovered a cyber infiltration on Friday that forced it to restrict access to four of Australia’s largest ports, a mass closure that threatened to disrupt supply chains for days. It is the latest in a series of devastating cyberattacks worldwide this year.
DP World Australia is assessing whether any personal information has been affected and has taken “proactive steps” to engage with and inform the Australian Information Commissioner’s Office of the crisis.
“One of the key issues in this ongoing investigation is the nature of access to and theft of data. DP World Australia is fully aware that this development may cause concern to some stakeholders,” the statement added.
