Emirates Group plans to build an engineering facility in Dubai World Central to support the group’s fleet and operational requirements until the 1940s, according to the company’s statement.
The $950 million facility will also be a commercial aerospace engineering service hub in the Middle East, with the potential to provide backup capacity to other airline operators.
“The engineering facility will be built on an area of 1 million square meters and will become the largest and most sophisticated facility operated by any air tanker in the world, giving a powerful boost to Dubai’s world-class aviation infrastructure,” according to the statement.
The new Emirates Engineering Center is expected to be equipped to handle a full range of specialized aircraft engineering services, from routine checks to paint work, light to heavy maintenance programs, engine repair and testing, to full interior cabin fittings and aircraft conversion for various uses, according to the statement.
“Construction is expected to begin in the first phase in 2024 and end in 2027. We have made the necessary arrangements for further expansion in the future, as the absorptive capacity is expected to double in phase II, in line with the growth of the group’s fleet,” Ali Mubarak Al Saouri, Executive Vice President, Facilities and Project Management, Procurement and Supply Chain at Emirates Group, said.
