Emirates Airline ordered an additional 95 wide-body aircraft, bringing its total orders to 295 aircraft, to support its growth plans, the company said in a statement today.
Emirates is the largest operator of wide-body passenger aircraft in the world and has committed to purchasing additional Boeing 777-9, 777-8, and 787 aircraft worth $52 billion (about AED 191 billion) on the first day of the Dubai Airshow.
Emirates Airline said it had signed confirmed orders for an additional 55 “777-9” and 35 “777-8” aircraft powered by GE-9X engines. This brings the carrier’s total orders of “777X” aircraft to 205 aircraft.
“The new aircraft will enable connecting more cities to Dubai, which supports the emirate’s economic agenda (known as D33), which includes adding 400 cities to the map of foreign trade during the next decade, where the company’s fleet is expected to include about 350 aircraft by the early thirties,” Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and CEO of Emirates and the group, said.
The company also signed an order for the purchase of 202 GE-9X engines to power the additional 777X aircraft ordered today, bringing the total order of GE-9X engines to 460 engines.
