Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan have agreed on the joint development of the transport corridor from China to Iran through the territory of the two countries, according to the Kazakh Ministry of Transport.
The first meeting of the Kazakh-Turkmen Joint Working Group on Transport, Transit, and Logistics Development was held in Ashgabat under the chairmanship of the Deputy Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan, Talat Lastaev, and the Deputy Director-General of the Transport and Communications Agency of the Council of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Batir Anayev.
The parties also discussed cooperation issues in transport, transit, and logistics and the issue of a flexible competitive tariff policy in the area of rail communications.
“During the meeting of the Working Group, the parties agreed on the joint development of the China-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran corridor,” the Kazakh Ministry of Transport said in a statement.
Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport and the Transport and Communications Agency of the Council of Ministers of Turkmenistan signed a memorandum on transport cooperation.
The memorandum aims to expand cooperation between the two countries in the area of rail and maritime transport.
In particular, issues of increasing the volume of transport across the territories of the two countries will be covered, including creating favourable tariff conditions, synchronizing infrastructure development, and adopting joint measures to provide digital solutions for information exchange between the two countries.
