UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Al Mazroui said that the UAE aims to develop a sustainable domestic aviation fuel capacity sufficient to produce 700 million liters of sustainable aviation fuel on an annual basis.
Sustainable aviation fuel, an alternative to fossil kerosene that operates jet turbines, is derived from a variety of components, from waste and fat oils to sugar crops and some trees and herbs, according to Emirates News Agency “WAM.”
“The UAE aims to provide at least 1% of the total fuel supplied at its airports to UAE airlines in 2031,” Al Mazroui said.
The aviation sector contributes more than 13% of the UAE’s GDP, and this contribution is expected to double by 170% over the next two decades, according to Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and chairman of the General Authority of Civil Aviation.
