Uzbekistan’s cotton sector has seen development and a shift toward higher-quality textiles since the termination of a worldwide boycott.
Uzbekistan is the world’s sixth-largest cotton producer, and the sector has grown as a result of reforms and the termination of a worldwide boycott against Uzbek cotton.
The Cotton Campaign established the ban in 2010 in response to forced harvesting, which drove over 2 million people, including children, into the fields.
The World Bank launched a monitoring program, which revealed that forced labor had been eradicated by 2021 and the boycott had been removed in 2022.
