Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook and Instagram, has announced that his company is working on artificial intelligence called “Meta”. Meta is described as a general-purpose AI system that utilizes human-level cognitive capabilities, similar to “OpenAI” and the innovative “Chatbot PT”.
The billionaire stated in an interview published on Thursday by the American technology website “The Verge” that “we have reached the conclusion that building the products we want to build requires us to work towards general artificial intelligence.”
He added: “I believe it is important to announce this because many of the top researchers are interested in working on more ambitious problems.”
The general artificial intelligence has been made accessible to everyone thanks to the California-based startup company, “Open AI,” surprising the world at the end of 2022 with the launch of “Chat GPT,” which is considered the most famous generative artificial intelligence program. It is capable of producing diverse content upon a simple request in everyday language.
Previously, the president of “Open AI”, Sam Altman, described general artificial intelligence as the technology that will be used in programs that are “smarter than humans in general”.
The concept remains unclear, as the international affairs officer at “Meta”, Nick Clegg, indicated in Davos on Thursday that there is “no consensus regarding the exact meaning of general artificial intelligence”.
He added, “If you ask a group of computer scientists to define it, you will get a different definition from each of them.”
The rise of artificial intelligence technology in the past year sparked fierce competition among technology giants.
“Microsoft” (the main investor in “Open AI”), “Google,” and “Meta” rushed to provide several tools and are seeking to attract the best engineers.
