The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in China has affirmed that it will intensify its efforts to achieve stability in the area of planted crops and increase crop productivity, in an attempt to fulfill its goal of grain production by 2024.
According to the online newspaper, People’s Daily, China has experienced a 1.3 percent increase in grain production on an annual basis, reaching a record level of 695.41 billion kilograms in 2023.
Pan Wanbo, the Director of the Crop Management Department at the ministry, confirmed during a press conference in Beijing that the ministry will make every effort to ensure that grain production in China remains above 650 billion kilograms in 2024.
To achieve this goal, the ministry will focus on stabilizing the agricultural areas allocated for grain production and improving productivity per unit in order to make progress in production and overall stability, while improving the quality and structure of grain varieties.
He added that the ministry has developed plans to mitigate agricultural disasters, establish emergency response centers equipped with sufficient supplies, and allocate experts to guide disaster relief operations to minimize producers’ losses.
