Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta Platforms, discussed artificial intelligence issues with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Tuesday during Facebook founder’s trip through Asia.
Zuckerberg stated briefly to reporters at the Prime Minister’s residence in Tokyo, “We had a good and productive discussion about artificial intelligence and the future of technology,” then left without taking any questions.
The meeting came after reports that Zuckerberg will visit South Korea at the end of this month to discuss artificial intelligence with the president of Samsung Electronics, Jay Y. Lee, and may also meet with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol. Zuckerberg will also head to India during his Asian tour.
“Samsung Electronics” and other South Korean companies are considered among the world’s leading groups in the field of artificial intelligence chips. Zuckerberg is expected to discuss the possibility of collaboration with the president of “LG Electronics” to develop a new headset for augmented reality (virtual, mixed, and enhanced reality) to compete with the “Vision Pro” glasses recently introduced by “Apple,” according to the “Korea Economic Daily” newspaper.
At the end of the week, Zuckerberg is expected to arrive in India to attend lavish celebrations before the wedding of one of Mukesh Ambani’s sons, the wealthy chairman of Reliance Industries, as reported by several media outlets.
In Japan, the government and the corporate sector are racing to catch up with the trend of developing artificial intelligence. Last year, Kishida met with Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, and Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, to discuss the regulation of artificial intelligence and infrastructure.
The 39-year-old American billionaire recently posted pictures on social media a few days ago with a caption about his “special afternoon learning how to make katanas,” traditional Japanese swords, with a craftsman in Komagaya in Saitama (north of Tokyo). Short videos showed Zuckerberg as an apprentice blacksmith, hammering on molten metal and testing a sharp sword.
After skiing with his family last week in Japan, Zuckerberg met with a group of developers at Meta on Monday and Tuesday in the Japanese capital, according to Bloomberg agency.
