BYD has released a new model of their electric car Dolphin with improved performance, enhanced design, and lower price.
The new electric car comes with a starting price of $13,900, fueling the price war announced by Chinese car manufacturers on fuel-powered vehicles.
BYD ceased production of fuel-powered vehicles in early 2022.
The new Honor model is the most affordable in BYD’s Dolphin lineup so far, starting at less than $14,000.
Since its launch in 2021, Dolphin electric cars have continued to achieve high sales figures.
BYD sold a total of 367,419 Dolphin cars in the past year, showing an increase of 79% compared to 2022.
Dolphin sales account for 12 percent of BYD’s total sales in 2023. They are also expanding internationally, with recent launches in Japan, Mexico, Europe, Brazil, and other countries.
BYD captured 20% of Japan’s imports last month after launching the Dolphin models last year in Japan.
Japan is not considered a well-known importer, with local car manufacturing companies such as Toyota dominating the market. Most of the imported cars from abroad are luxury models.
The base model starts at $13,900 with a range of up to 300 km, while prices for the other three models range between $15,700 and $18,000 with a range of up to 420 km.
The car comes with dimensions of 4125 mm x 1770 mm x 1570 mm, which are the same dimensions as its predecessor. In comparison, the electric car is slightly smaller than the Volkswagen ID.3.
The new electric car from BYD retains much of its previous design, including front lights shaped like dolphin eyes.
The new model includes new 16-inch wheels with five spokes and two new colors.
He also receives a 50-watt wireless phone charger, a new type-C charging port, and ventilated front seats.
The new Dolphin retains its floating rotatable screen measuring 12.8 inches with a 5-inch screen for gauges.
The car has been equipped with an updated rear suspension system. It also features rear privacy glass.
Dolphin continues to be powered by two electric motors with a power of 70 kilowatts and 130 kilowatts, although it has received new battery options.
BYD has equipped the base model of the Honor with a 32-kilowatt battery, while the top level model has been equipped with a 45-kilowatt battery that allows for a range of up to 420 km.
It is expected to introduce a level with a battery capacity of 60 kilowatts that provides a range of up to 520 km.
