The Office of the President of Tajikistan Imam Ali Rahman announced the offer of a $500 million concessional loan by the Chinese-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank to his country for the construction of the Rogun hydroelectric plant.
Tajikistan began construction of the Rogun hydroelectric plant in 2016 to provide full energy independence.
It has already launched two of the six planned turbines but estimates that it will need another $5 billion to complete the project.
Tajikistan’s President is in China with four other Central Asian leaders to meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
Rahman met before his meeting with the President of China, the President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and announced the Rogun Station financing deal.
