Chinese investments in Central Asia outnumber Russian ones by 2.3 times, according to research issued by the Eurasian Development Bank.
In the first half of 2023, Chinese investments totaled $55.9 billion. Russia invested $23.8 billion in total.
Chinese investments have been made in Kazakhstan’s oil and gas pipeline industry, gold mining and oil refineries in Kyrgyzstan, and a gold mining and cement company in Tajikistan.
According to Kyrgyzstan’s state statistics, Chinese investments totaled $102.3 million in the first half of 2023.
