The Chinese foreign ministry said on Wednesday that China has not imposed a ban on the purchase or use of foreign phones.
This came in response to media reports that some government agencies and companies have asked their employees not to use Apple phones at work.
“China has not issued any laws, regulations or guidance documents prohibiting the purchase and use of phones of foreign types such as Apple phones,”Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a regular press briefing when asked about the reports.
“The Chinese government attaches great importance to information and cyber security, and treats both domestic and foreign companies,”she added.
Earlier, Reuters reported that China has expanded existing restrictions on the use of iPhones by government officials, and has asked employees in some central government agencies to stop using Apple phones at work.
Mao said that China hopes that all mobile phone companies will comply with laws and regulations as well as “strengthen data security management”.
