Chinese Foreign Minister “Wang Yi” stressed his country’s readiness to work with Malaysia to deepen bilateral cooperation and achieve more concrete results in building a Chinese-Malaysian community with a common future.
The Chinese news agency Xinhua reported on Saturday that this came during Wang’s meeting with Malaysian Foreign Minister Zambry Abdul Qadir during his visit to Malaysia, where they exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, and agreed to strengthen communication and coordination, maintain the centrality of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian nations), and promote regional peace, stability and development.
Noting that China supports Malaysia in following a development path consistent with its national conditions and playing a greater role in regional and international affairs, Wang called for strengthening communication and coordination, increasing strategic mutual trust, supporting each other in protecting their fundamental interests, rights and legitimate interests, and jointly adhering to the basic norms governing international relations.
The Chinese Foreign Minister said that the construction of the East Coast Railway project and the “two countries, twin complexes” project comes within the framework of the Belt and Road initiative, adding that China and Malaysia are achieving good cooperation in the fields of automobile manufacturing, digital economy and new energy.
For his part, Zambry stressed that the two countries enjoy strong and close relations and have witnessed great progress in their practical cooperation, pointing out Malaysia’s continued support for the joint construction of the Belt and Road and participation in it, expressing his country’s aspiration to consolidate relations in all fields and at all levels to expand mutually beneficial cooperation.
He added that Malaysia highly appreciates and supports a series of global initiatives put forward by China, calls for harmonious coexistence of various civilizations, and looks forward to promoting people-to-people exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations with China.
