Ambassador Amira Fahmy, ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Tashkent, participated in a ceremony organized by the Uzbek side on the occasion of receiving 11 shipments of Egyptian medical aid for the treatment of hepatitis epidemic.
On the Egyptian side, Dr. Mohamed Hassani, Assistant Minister of Health and population for public health projects and initiatives, participated in the ceremony via the “zoom” technology, as well as Dr. Bahadur kahramanovich, chairman of the committee on health care, Epidemiology and Public Health Protection of Uzbekistan, ambassador mansurbek klychev, ambassador of Uzbekistan in Cairo (via zoom technology), as well as a representative of the WHO office in Uzbekistan, and about 60 Uzbek doctors.
Uzbek officials praised the medical humanitarian assistance provided by Egypt, which will have a great impact on the recovery of thousands of patients with hepatitis C. Dr. Mohamed El hassany, Assistant Minister of Health, pointed to the historic achievement achieved by Egypt in the field of eliminating hepatitis C virus in less than five years, and its pioneering experience in providing drugs at low prices to patients, stressing Egypt’s support for the Uzbek national anti-virus program and what it needs in the field of health care.
The Egyptian ambassador made an intervention during which she noted her happiness to celebrate the second consecutive year of providing more medical humanitarian assistance to Uzbekistan for the treatment of hepatitis C patients, taking into account the significant progress made by Egypt in the fight against the virus, noting Egypt’s commitment to stand by Uzbekistan in its efforts to secure better health for its people and eliminate long queues to receive treatment for hepatitis C.
The ambassador was also keen to point out Egypt’s successful experience in the development of healthcare and pharmaceutical industries, with the aim of producing high-quality products at competitive prices, noting the Uzbek President’s interest during his visit to Egypt last February to meet with representatives of major Egyptian leading companies in the field of drug production and medical preparations, which resulted in the signing of important agreements between the two sides in this regard, and encouraged major Egyptian pharmaceutical companies to visit Uzbekistan recently to explore ways of cooperation in the field of drug production.
