The creative works of young Emirati designers and talents shone at the Middle East Watches and Jewelry Exhibition, hosted and organized by the Sharjah Expo Center. They showcased their innovative collections of gold and diamond jewelry with a global appeal and unique designs inspired by Emirati heritage.
This took place as they participated in the “Emirati Craftsmen” platform, designated by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, within the exhibition, as part of their commitment to support entrepreneurship and small and medium-sized enterprises by promoting their projects in all exhibitions.
The Emirati exhibitors showcased a collection of innovative international designs, including the diamond painting project presented by Emirati designer Shamma Al Falasi. The exhibition also featured a display of several gold pieces that combined Emirati heritage with contemporary global designs.
Among them were the “Boushak” collection adorned with diamonds and enamel, meticulously crafted with the highest levels of skill and artistic creativity in gold and jewelry designs.
The platform that witnessed the participation of over 20 designers and attracted 8 new entries that made their remarkable debut during the exhibition, received a great response from visitors and enthusiasts of gold jewelry.
It showcased hundreds of pieces that varied between jewelry, diamond and gold accessories, as well as many precious metals and gemstones. Each piece had its own unique style and exquisite colors, alongside a distinguished collection of the latest jewelry designs inspired by nature and heritage details.
Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of the Sharjah Expo Center, confirmed that the “Emirati Craftsmanship” platform provided annually by the Chamber at the “Middle East Watch and Jewelry Exhibition” is a testament to their continuous efforts to develop a supportive and enabling environment for the growth and success of entrepreneurship and support national projects that enhance their contribution to driving economic growth, increasing its flexibility and sustainability.
He pointed out that the platform witnesses an annual growth in the number of participants from Emirati entrepreneurs and talented individuals, with the number of platform members reaching around 420 designers. This confirms its importance in providing them with the opportunity to showcase their talents and creativity, as well as learn from experienced professionals in the industry and connect with them for exchanging experiences and improving their skills.
He praised the innovative and unique designs by Emirati designers, which highlight the UAE’s position in the jewelry industry sector.
Mona Al-Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, responsible for the “Emirati Craftsmen” platform, pointed out the successes achieved by the “Emirati Craftsmen” platform in terms of enhancing the craftsmanship skills of Emirati designers and developing their abilities to create innovative and distinctive gold designs and works.
She explained that the platform witnessed a 20% growth in its male designer members, which confirms the reputation and importance of this initiative in providing opportunities for designers to enter the gold and jewelry industry market, gain experience, and enhance their marketing capabilities.
The platform held several workshops during the exhibition that shed light on the mechanisms and techniques of gemstone carving, as well as how to classify the quality of gold and its craftsmanship.
It also witnessed the organization of a number of bilateral dialogue sessions between Emirati designers and representatives of Italian companies, aimed at exchanging experiences and learning about the best international practices in the field of gold and jewelry design and craftsmanship.
Fashion designer Shamma Al Falasi explained that her diamond painting project, which she launched during the exhibition, was inspired by a visit organized by the Sharjah Chamber for Emirati designers to Italy.
She got the idea for the project during her visit to the Florence museum and also through her meetings with Italian designers specializing in diamond crafting. The project revolves around painting with diamond particles and includes interior designs that require special lighting to reveal them.
Designer Fatima Al Bannai expressed her gratitude to the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry for providing her and her colleagues with the opportunity to participate in the Middle East Watch and Jewelry Exhibition under the UAE Maker platform, which offered them all the support to enhance their craft skills and showcase their innovations and latest designs through this important event.
She emphasized that this year she was keen on launching distinctive collections of gold and heritage jewelry with modern designs, including the “Boushak” piece, which has diamonds and enamel color added to it, giving potential buyers the option to choose from over 40 colors.
