The Japanese government began using the Open AI Foundation’s “Chat GBT” to try to streamline often vague and complex government regulations.
Japanese Minister Tetsuru Nomura said the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is now trying the chat program to simplify official documents and make them more accessible.
“We don’t do anything big with this tool,” Nomura told reporters during a press conference, adding that the automated chat software will only deal with publicly available information: “There is always a risk of leaking confidential information.”
The Japanese newspaper Asahi previously reported that the Ministry plans to use automated chat software to update online booklets on how to fill requests for subsidies and other forms of public support.
It is the first time that a central government institution in Japan has announced that it is testing the AI version released by OpenAI.
