The Japanese Nikkei index breached the 34,000 level for the first time since March 1990. The Japanese stock market index rose over 2% during trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on Wednesday, reaching 34,462.33 points.
Asian and Pacific markets mostly declined on Wednesday, although Japanese stocks continued to gain after reaching their highest level in 33 years, while inflation in Australia reached its lowest level in almost two years.
The weighted average consumer price index in Australia, known as the eight capital cities CPI, increased by 4.3% on an annual basis, slightly lower than the expected increase of 4.4% in a survey conducted by Reuters.
The S&P/ASX 200 index decreased by 0.69% and closed at 7468.50, ending a four-day losing streak on Tuesday.
The Kospi index declined by 0.7% in South Korea, as the country’s unemployment rate reached its highest level in 23 months. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq index fell by 1.14%.
The Hang Seng index in Hong Kong decreased by 0.45%, while the Chinese CSI 300 index decreased by 0.11%.
