The Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Sports reported that more than 250 thousand foreign tourists stayed in hotels in Kazakhstan during the past month and a half.
As confirmed by eQonaq, 250,468 foreign nationals stayed in local hotels from 1 June until 23 July, three times more than the corresponding period last year. Last year saw 77,645 foreign tourists booked for hotels in Kazakhstan.
During the reporting period, the total number of tourists from CIS countries amounted to 180,000 or 72 per cent of the total number of tourists, indicating an increase in the number of travellers from foreign countries. Last year, tourists from the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States accounted for 77 per cent of the total number of tourists.
Tourists from Mongolia increased 11 times, China – 8.5 times, India – 4.7 times, South Korea – 3.8 times, Iran – 3.8 times, Germany – 3 times, and the United States – 2.2 times.
Foreign tourists mostly choose the cities of Almaty and Astana as their destination – 77308 and 38,463 tourists, respectively. 19,049 tourists travelled to Almaty, while 15,062 travelled to Mangistau.
