The Chinese company Huawei has unveiled its latest foldable smartphone, the Huawei Pocket 2, featuring a wide range of design and specification enhancements. It is recognized as the first vertically folding “Flip” phone to integrate four cameras into its casing.
The phone boasts a primary 6.94-inch LPTO OLED foldable display with Full HD resolution. Additionally, it features a small 1.15-inch circular screen next to the rear camera, which has a resolution of 340 x 340 pixels.
Huawei has a tendency to conceal the type of processors used in its phones for some time, but it is anticipated that this phone will operate on a Kirin 9000S processor, along with a random access memory (RAM) capacity of 12 gigabytes and three storage options of either 256 or 512 gigabytes or a terabyte.
Huawei offers another version called Pocket 2 Art, which features an enhanced exterior design, 16GB of RAM, and a storage capacity of 1 terabyte.
On the rear side, there is a circular camera unit composed of four cameras: a main camera with a resolution of 50 megapixels equipped with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) technology, and a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera.
In addition, there is an 8-megapixel telephoto camera that supports OIS.
The fourth camera features a 2-megapixel ultraviolet light sensor, which can detect the intensity of UV rays by analyzing the image. This enables the sensor to suggest when to apply sunscreen as needed. It can also identify facial skin pigmentations that may result from sun exposure, as claimed by the company.
The Huawei Pocket 2 phone features a battery with a capacity of 4520 milliampere-hours, supporting 66-watt wired charging as well as 40-watt wireless charging capabilities.
The phone operates on the HarmonyOS 4 system, and its small rear screen can be easily customized to meet user preferences. Options for customization include adding a clock, a wallpaper, an animated GIF, an avatar, among others. Additionally, the small screen can be utilized for taking selfies using the main camera or for receiving notifications.
The basic version of the phone is available for $1,000, while Huawei offers the Pocket 2 Art edition for $1,500.
