Today, it was reported that Hyundai Motor Group has secured the third spot in global car sales for the second consecutive year.
According to data released by each company, Hyundai Motor Group, which includes Hyundai Motor, Kia, and Genesis, sold a total of 7,304,000 units worldwide last year, placing them third after Toyota Group and Volkswagen Group, which sold 11,233,000 and 9,240,000 units respectively.
In 2022, Hyundai Motor Group climbed to third place for the first time and has maintained its position for the second year in a row, as reported by South Korean news agency Yonhap.
The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance and General Motors came in fourth and fifth place respectively.
The gap between Hyundai Motor Group and the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance widened from 688,000 units in 2022 to 905,000 units last year.
Over the past two decades, Hyundai Motor Group’s global sales have consistently increased. The group has steadily climbed the ranks, moving from the tenth position in 2000 to entering the “Big Five” list for the first time in 2010, surpassing American automaker Ford.
Despite fierce competition in the auto industry, the group remained in fifth place since then. In 2020, it rose to fourth place for the first time but dropped back to fifth the following year before jumping to third place in 2022.
In 2022, Hyundai Motor Group was the only group to achieve positive growth of 7.2% among the top six automakers. However, Toyota and Volkswagen saw growth of 2.7% and 11% respectively in sales last year, surpassing Hyundai Group which recorded a 6.7% growth.
