Apple and Google are in trouble after a number of new laws in both Japan and Europe put pressure on the giants to allow users to download apps from outside their official stores.
Japan pressures the two giants to allow users to download apps from outside their official stores, and has approved a set of regulations that allow Google and Apple users to download side apps like Android users. In addition to deleting apps that come installed by default on devices, a move that may help lower app prices and increase competition among technology companies.
The Japanese move is no different from Europe’s digital markets law which forced Apple to make some changes towards iPhone apps.
Some will be implemented this year, for example, the new version of iOS will give iPhone users the ability to download apps from other storefronts.
According to new statistics, 97% of Android users download apps from the Google Play Store and are not forced to do so.
