Japan’s competition authority said it will begin an investigation into Google’s suspected antitrust violations in web search services, following similar moves by regulators in Europe and other major nations.
The Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) said that it will examine whether Google violated Japan’s Antimonopoly Act, notably by returning a portion of its earnings to Android smartphone producers on the condition that competitor search engines not be installed.
Similar actions have been taken by antitrust officials in the European Union, the United States, and elsewhere.
