Japan recorded a trade balance deficit of 731.78 billion yen ($537,727 million) over the past month, much worse than analysts’ forecast of a surplus of 24.6 billion yen after a surplus of 43.1 billion yen last June according to revised data or 43 billion yen according to preliminary data.
Japan’s exports last July fell 0.3% annually to 8.724 trillion yen, the first annual decline in 29 months, while analysts were expecting a 0.8% decline after growing 1.5% over the previous month.
Imports also fell 13.5% annually, while analysts were expecting to return 14.7% after falling 12.9% in June.
