According to press reports, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan significantly reduced natural gas supply to China between January and May 2023.
Uzbekistan’s gas exports to China fell by 60.71% and reached $118.63 million.
Kazakh gas exports to China also fell by 25.4% to $300.13 million.
Turkmenistan currently ranks first in China’s pipeline gas supply.
Turkmenistan supplied gas to China for $10.25 billion (up 51%) in 2022, Kazakhstan for $1.08 billion (down 4%) and Uzbekistan for $1.07 billion (up 33.9%).
Over the past years, the Government of Uzbekistan has decided to significantly reduce natural gas sales abroad due to growing demand for domestic consumption.
