Kazakhstan’s second largest oil field has cut production by about 100 thousand barrels per day, after the project imposed restrictions on the re-injection of gas.
The reduction came after an increase in hydrogen sulfide level was detected on the production island where the project wells. The project seeks to find the source of hydrogen sulfide increase, and the research may take at least several days.
Kazakhstan’s oil, gas and condensate production stood at 242,500 tons on May 22, down from 253,200 tons on May 19, according to data from a unit of the Ministry of Energy.
The “North Caspian Sea Company” (NCOC) operating the Kashajan field did not immediately comment nor the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.
