Kazatomprom JSC, Kazakhstan’s national nuclear enterprise, has signed a deal for the supply of uranium with China National Uranium Corporation Limited (CNUC), a subsidiary of China National Nuclear Corporation.
The signing of this arrangement, according to Kazatomprom, would help fulfill China’s rising need for clean, carbon-free energy while also strengthening the two nations’ historically long-standing nuclear connection.
Seitzhan Zhanybekov, Kazatomprom’s Managing Director for Strategy and Marketing, said that the company’s market-driven strategy is to produce, process, and sell natural uranium concentrates to create long-term value for all stakeholders.
“Close collaboration with one of the largest Chinese energy enterprises, such as CNUC, attests to Kazatomprom’s solid reputation as a trustworthy and chosen supplier in the worldwide nuclear fuel market,” he added.
A long-term deal was inked with CNUC during the China International Import Expo 2023 in Shanghai.
According to the corporation, the contract’s scope and commercial terms are private and commercially sensitive and are not subject to public publication.
Kazakhstan’s Kazatomprom unveiled their 2025 uranium production strategy on September 29, 2023. Kazatomprom’s Board of Directors authorized the company’s goal to expand uranium production volumes to 100% of the amount projected under subsoil usage contracts by 2025.
Kazakhstan has the world’s second-largest proven deposits of natural uranium.
