The number of electric vehicle chargers in South Korea showed 240 thousand Sunday, data showed on Sunday, as the country’s eco-friendly cars grew in demand, according to Yonhap.
Representative Park Sang-hyonk of the main opposition Democratic Party, citing data from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Environment, said the fast chargers represented 10.6% of 240,695 charging stations in South Korea in May.
Given the authorities’ unregistered chargers, the actual number of available charging stations may be higher than reported.
The number of EV chargers in the country has shown rapid growth in recent years, rising from just 330 in 2015, and exceeding 100,000 in 2021.
According to the region, Seoul’s neighbouring Kyongki region had the largest number at 60,873, followed by 42,619. The number in the southeastern port city of Busan was 13,370.
