Kyrgyzstan announced that it will achieve a surplus in the energy sector in 2026 and begin exporting electricity.
“We will achieve surplus electricity in 2026 and start exporting electricity,” Kyrgyzstan’s Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Akylbek Japarov, said.
“In order to overcome electricity shortages, five small hydropower plants with a capacity of 71 MW each, five solar power plants, and the second hydroelectric unit of the Tuctuol hydropower plant will be operational in 2023,” he added.
“In 2024, the capacity will increase by 178 MW; in particular, 25 small hydropower plants and another hydroelectric unit will be operational at the Tuctuol hydropower plant,” Japarov said.
“Next year, the 700 MW solar power plants and the 5 MW Bala Saro hydropower plant will be operational in the Talas region,” he explained.
