Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company “Masdar”, a global clean energy company, signed a joint development agreement with the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, under which Masdar develops solar and wind projects with a production capacity exceeding 2 GW, in addition to developing projects in the field of 500 MW/Hstorage batteries throughout Uzbekistan.
The Convention promotes clean energy cooperation between Masdar and the Government of Uzbekistan, which is looking to provide 25 per cent of its energy mix through renewable sources by 2030.
Uzbekistan, located in Central Asia, is a major strategic destination for Masdar because of its abundance of sun and wind energy sources. Uzbekistan looks forward to generating 7 GW of sun and 5 GW of wind power by the end of this decade.
During a ceremony in Uzbekistan, the Convention was signed by the First Deputy Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, Azim Ahmed Khujaev; Sarvar Khmedov, Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan; Mohammed Jamil Al Ramhi, CEO of Masdar.
Mohammed Al-Ramhi, Chief Executive Officer of Masdar, said: “This agreement represents an important new chapter in the process of fruitful cooperation between Masdar and the Government of Uzbekistan, which is one of our key strategic partners. The development of solar projects with a production capacity exceeding 2 GW and the expansion of 500 MW/h energy storage battery systems would undoubtedly contribute to Uzbekistan’s ambitious renewable energy goals. “
