Moroccan Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, stated that her country has accumulated a total capacity of 4.6 gigawatts in renewable energies, including solar energy, which provides 852 megawatts through an investment of 30 billion dirhams (3 billion dollars).
During the oral question session in the House of Councillors which took place yesterday, Benali stated that Morocco has invested approximately 60 billion dirhams (6 billion dollars) in renewable energy projects since the launch of the national energy strategy in 2009.
Minister Benali mentioned that over 50% of wind energy projects have been developed by the private sector.
The government official explained that in cooperation with the National Office of Water and Electricity, a program has been scheduled to add an additional capacity of 9.6 gigawatts by 2027 with an investment of 75 billion dirhams ($7.6 billion).
