The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT) in Oman has reported a substantial 66 percent increase in its revenue for the year 2023, reaching around OMR30 million ($77.93 million), compared to the previous year’s figures.
Additionally, the ministry disclosed that it allocated over OMR216 million to the private sector for development projects under its supervision during the same timeframe.
Fahd bin Salem al Hinai, the director general of Administrative and Financial Affairs at MTCIT, emphasized the ministry’s commitment to prompt payments to the private sector upon the completion of the necessary documentation, facilitated by the Ministry of Finance’s unified financial system.
These financial resources were primarily directed towards road construction and maintenance, including repairs due to adverse weather conditions. Furthermore, funds were earmarked for digital transformation projects and initiatives in the communications and information technology sector.
The ministry organized a total of 230 programs and training workshops in 2023 to enhance the skills and knowledge of its workforce. These programs covered specialized, general administrative, technical, and leadership topics, as well as distance training sessions.
More than 1,916 employees from various divisions of the ministry benefited from these educational opportunities, demonstrating MTCIT’s commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Hinai also highlighted the implementation of new systems designed to streamline the execution and evaluation of training programs, ensuring high standards of quality and performance.
Regarding employment, MTCIT welcomed 103 new staff members in 2023, with 78 joining on permanent contracts and 25 based on experience, across its diverse divisions.
An impressive 97 percent Omanisation rate was achieved in technical roles within the ministry’s sectors, showcasing its dedication to empowering local talent.
