The South Korean statistics agency announced that online shopping sales in the country increased by 9.6% year-on-year during September.
The agency’s data showed that the value of online shopping transactions amounted to 19 trillion won (14.2 billion dollars), compared to 17.3 trillion won a year ago, driven by high demand for travel services, the Korean news agency Yonhap reported.
Travel and transportation services increased by 37.2% to 2.05 trillion won, and food and beverage sales increased by 22.1% to 2.7 trillion won.
Sales of gift cards reached 964.8 billion won, an increase of 42.8%, sales of food delivery services reached 2.14 trillion won, an increase of 7.2%, and purchases made by smartphones and tablets increased by 6.8% to reach 13.7 trillion won.
