Pakistan’s Finance Minister, Shamshad Akhtar, said that her country needs more financial assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to aid its economy and may request another aid package.
Pakistan’s Finance Minister made the statement a day after reaching a staff-level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to obtain a $700 million payment under an existing program, highlighting the scale of the crisis facing the state in the context of economic and political turmoil.
Pakistan must pay off about $1 billion in debt due next year after the upcoming elections in February 2024.
“We need continued cooperation with the IMF because our economy is still fragile, and we may be seeking another loan,” Akhtar said.
