On Friday, Prime Minister Elikhan Smilov of Kazakhstan held negotiations with Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili of Georgia in the Georgian capital Tbilisi, where he is on an official visit to strengthen relations.
KAZINFORM quoted the statement of the Prime Minister’s Office as saying that Kazakhstan and Georgia had long-standing friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation, and were seeking to strengthen trade relations.
The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan stressed that Georgia is an important and reliable partner of Kazakhstan in the South Caucasus, while trade and economic cooperation remains the main focus of bilateral interaction.
Last year, sales between the two countries grew seven times, reaching a record $600 million, and dynamic growth continued in the current year when the volume of trade increased five times and reached $167 million during the first quarter.
“These are very good indicators that allow us to make plans to reach the $1 billion threshold in the near future,” Smilov said, noting the key role of transit transport in cooperation between Kazakhstan and Georgia, where major intercontinental transport corridors pass through the territory of the two countries as the shortest routes from Europe to China and South-East Asia.
Irakli Garibashvili, in turn, noted the high level of development of relations between Georgia and Kazakhstan, saying: “We are glad to have an opportunity to discuss all issues. Today, new opportunities are opening up for our countries and our region as a whole. We are working together on the development of the middle corridor. We must be ready to work actively in the years ahead to implement long-term prospects “.
In addition, prospects for strengthening cooperation in agriculture, tourism and the implementation of new technological products were considered.
