Last month, Japan’s retail sales rose by 5% annually to 13.207 trillion yen ($94.49 billion).
Data from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry fell short of forecasts from analysts who expected sales to grow by 5.8% after growing by 6.9% in March.
At the same time, sales of large retailer chains fell 1.2% per month, while analysts were expecting to stabilize after rising 0.6% over the previous month.
Japan’s wholesale sales increased by 0.1% annually and 0.3% per month to 35.459 trillion yen, while trade sales fell by 0.2% per month, increasing by 1.4% per year to 48.666 trillion yen.
